March 2012 promoted as "Florida Bike Month"

As part of School Board Chair Perla Tabares Hantman's long-standing safety initiatives, on January 18, 2012, she proffered an agenda item promoting March 2012 as "Florida Bike Month". Miami-Dade County Public Schools champions programs and events that promote personal health and well being in addition to protecting the environment.

This initiative is intended to promote the following:

  • Healthy lifestyle choices, which encourage physical fitness as well as helps reduce the chances of chronic illnesses and obesity;

  • Bicycle use has a positive effect on the environment by lower motor vehicle emissions and global warming; and

  • Increase parking and existing road capacity when people choose to ride their bikes.

Help us celebrate March in a big way for bicyclists!
Better bicycling means a better Florida

School Board Chair Perla Tabares Hantman promoted March 2012 as "Florida Bike Month", and recognized Mr. David Henderson, Bicycle/Pedestrian Coordinator for the Miami-Dade Metropolitan Planning Organization, as an advocate of Bicycle Safety Programs throughout the District.
